Be Yourself In The Present

S: 1 Samuel 10:11NIV- When all those who had formerly known him saw him prophesying with the prophets, they asked each other, “What is this that has happened to the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?”

O: After Saul was anointed with oil by Samuel to be the king of the Israelites, he goes to Gibeah were he runs into a procession of prophets. Immediately Saul begins to prophesy with them just and the prophet Samuel told him he would after he anointed him. When the people that had known Saul prior to seeing him prophesy saw him, they began to wonder what happened to the Saul they knew, and if he was a prophet as well.

A: This story is a perfect picture of what happens when you have a real encounter with God. The Bible says in 1 Samuel 10:9 that God changed Saul's heart. When God transforms your heart there is a noticeable difference in you. Peoples natural response will always be to try to tell you who they think you are, and wonder why you are doing something they are not doing themselves. I find it interesting that the prophets never questioned what Saul was doing, but the people that knew him did. There will be times in life when you excel to another place and people will try to pull you back to a familiar place because they haven't moved themselves. Saul was stepping into a place of kingship where God called him to be extraordinary, but the people that knew him wanted him to remain ordinary. Never be deterred from who God called you to be because of who you used to be. Where you were is not where you are, and when you give yourself over to a future with Christ, there's no telling where He wants to take you. When God puts you into a new place, no one can keep you in the same old space.

P: God I'm thankful I'm not who I used to be. Amen.
