S: 1 Samuel 16:7NIV- But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."
O: The prophet Samuel is sent to the house of Jesse to anoint a new king of Israel. After inspecting all of what appeared to be the best prospects from Jesse's house, Samuel asked if Jesse has any more sons. Upon request the least likely candidate walks in the door in the form of a shepherd named David. Outwardly he wasn't what Samuel expected the next king to look like, but God saw that his heart was perfect to fill the position.
A: God loves to use the most unlikely people to do the most amazing things. Unfortunately we live in a society were it is common for a book to be judged by its cover. Outward appearance is not a determining factor for inward brilliance. I love God because as it pertains to His children, He is so painstaking thoughtful with the way that He creates each and everyone of us, that He can fully appreciate the diamonds He has buried deep within our souls. When no one can see our potential from the outside, always remember that what God has placed inside of you is more valuable that the shell that surrounds it. In one moment David went from being a shepherd, to knowing he was the next king of Israel. What a paradigm shift that must have been for him. How would you live today if you knew there was royal blood running through your veins? The good news is, because of Christ sacrifice, we are all adopted sons and daughters of a King. Today we have the ability to choose whether to live according to what we see in the mirror, or by what Gods sees in our hearts.
P: God thank You for always looking at my heart, even when my flesh doesn't look too good. Help me to see others the way You see them. Amen.
